Grand Rivers

We are in Grand Rivers for a couple of weeks. It is a cute little tourist town. There are a bunch of antique shops and it is as common to see golf carts on the road as it is to see cars. We spent yesterday walking around the town (main street), visiting the shops, stopped for ice cream and we were back at the RV within 2 hours. They have a place called Pattie's 1880 Settlement which is very nice and famous for its 2 inch pork chops. www.pattis-settlement.com

Today it threatened rained all day. so we just stayed at the RV and rested.

Catching up to Kentucky

We are now in Kentucky. We are only 65 miles from our last stop but it took us two hours to get here.

Let's catch up. Laurie and I did the flea market sale thing on friday and saturday with my bibs and her pens and pencils but sales were reflective of the national economy. Very depressing. But on a lighter note, Laurie and Wayne came up for dinner on Sunday. I was able to find some fresh corn to go with our grilled chicken and macaroni salad. We all ate too much but it was so good. Tom believes that food cooked outside always taste better. I believe that food cook by someone else always taste better (hint, hint). Anyways we started to take things down after they left as we moved on Monday. Then on monday we finished tearing down and made the trip north to Grand Rivers, Kentucky.

The new site is very very nice. As we pulled in I negotiated a better site than the one we had reserved. We are in a fairly new section that has several pull-thurs on blacktop. No backing up required. YEAH!!! And we have a great view across the roadway to the canal. The site is very large with a nice commons area behind us, a reunion size picnic area down the roadway and there are only large RV's in this section.

Grand Rivers is a unique little town that sits at the top of Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake. Today we will venture forth into town to find ice and some other supplies for the duration of our stay and explore a little.

Sewing Corner

Most of you know that I love to sew and quilt. So naturally i brought supplies and equipment to do so on the road. Tom complained about the vast amount of weight and storage it all took but gave in when I suggested that it might keep me sane on rainy days. The part i did not think through was going from a 10 X 12 room dedicated to my hobby to a 3 X 6 area that would have to double as our dinning table. (That means moving all my stuff or eating outside in the screen room. Outside wins!!)

These are the bibs I am making for tomorrow's sale. And yes, I am now taking orders.

We went to Paris...

We went to Paris... Paris, Tennessee that is. Tom, Laurie and I went to the American Bass Angler’s Barbeque Cook off on Saturday. It was lots of fun with some very interesting people, recipes and food carts. My favorite was the DoRagQ team. They look like a bunch of older biker guys who barbeque as a hobby. I think that maybe where the Dinosaur Barbeque got its start. Anyways everyone was very friendly and shared stories and barbeque tips when asked.

We found a Wally World and purchased a screen room so the bugs will leave us alone when we eat outside. Tom said we now have our City by the Coach (tent city that is).

Then on Sunday afternoon Laurie and Wayne came up for some barbeque. Oh yes, we cook out even in the rain. I have gotten good at cooking all our meals on the grill.

Monday and Tuesday have been project days. Laundry, cleaning, swimming with the dogs and did I mention that we are the only one’s here until Thursday. That gives us lots of time to reflect, pray, enjoy this wonderful place and catch up on the important things in life. YEAH!!!

A Fish Story

So we finally broke down, purchased a license, some nightcrawlers and took out the fishing stuff. We went evening fishing from the shore. It was fun. Warning, fish may appear smaller than actual size!!

When Lightening Strikes.....Run

We had a great day yesterday. Our friends Terry and Billy came to visit us along with their dog Mesa. We swam at the beach for a few hours until it started to thunder, so off we went to the RV to cook Hoffman hotdogs on the grill. Soon the rain started with more thunder. We sat out under the awning until one big crack of thunder sent us quickly inside. These are the pictures of an RV that was about 50 yards from ours. The people had pulled in about 2 hours prior and were inside playing cards waiting for the rain to stop. Luckily no one was hurt but the electrical system in the RV melted and all the metal rivets popped out.

Soon the rain stopped for a while and everyone came out to assess the damage. It appears we were not spared, it blew out the GFI at our power post and our shore power connection does not work. So off to the RV place tomorrow for them to look at our power inverter and fix the problem.

Lake Barkley

I know it has been a few days since we last posted, but we have had some network problems. It appears that the network that follows you everywhere has lost us. Every so often we catch a glimpse of them but they are like the fireflies we see at night, very illusive.

We had dinner on Sunday with Laurie and Wayne during a 4 hour thunderstorm. But the next two days yielded sunshine and the most amazing sunsets.

Terry and Bill called last night and the grandkids are back home with their Mom, so they are coming to visit us prior to heading back to the deep south. We are very excited to see them.

Lake Barkley is supposed to have wonderful fishing, so off the get fishing licenses and give our pocket poles a whirl. Maybe we can catch some fish for dinner. (hahaha)

Life at the Lake

We are having had a blast up here at the lake. We have met some really nice folks and played in the water everyday. The sites are very nice and the facilities are super clean.

Justin has become an excellant swimmer and Lincoln and Riley enjoy the comforts of the shady trees.

We borrowed Terry's grandkids for a couple of days and took them around to see the local wildlife and history. Oh yes and make Smores!!!

Most of our neighbors left yesterday and new ones came in last night. We have extended our stay a few days and will not head for Tenessee until Thursday, where we will stay until the 24th.

Out of the House

Well it took alot longer and much harder work than I had anticipated to move out of the house and into the RV. It was the sorting that was killing me. Give away, Store, Keep (and keep where!!)But it is finally done. Tom contends that we are seriously over weight but I believe that as soon as we both loose a few pounds, we can shed some of the extra clothing we are carrying.

We are just a little north of Dothan for a few days, to get the last minute stuff done and then we will be off to Tenessee and out of the heat for a few weeks. We did rent some grandkids for 2 nights and that was fun. I will post pics as soon as I reinstall the Nikon software.

Look for the pics tomorrow as today the family is coming up to celebrate the Fouth by the lake with us.
