May 25, 2009 Memorial Day

We spent yesterday on beautiful Cayuga Lake. The weather was perfect at the personal tour of the lake was just perfect. Janet packed us a nice lunch, which her friend Bob grilled for us at his camp.

Today we visited Abby and Chris’ home for a few moments and then headed back to Janet’s for a family cookout. There was lots of food, good company and wonderful children to enjoy.

A Horse Story

We get to see the horses everyday. Ginger is the lighter colored one and she is 24 years old. The other one is Elli and she is just a teenager. They are very sweet horses and Janet trailrides when she can. Riley likes to visit them but keeps a safe distance. Justin is still unsure and mostly ignores them. The landscape and view from here is beautiful. There is always a breeze...sometimes a mighty cool breeze. We have had to run the furnace in the RV for the last 3 nights. Burrrrrr Coooold.

We had a great time at the girls softball game. Unfortuately they did not win, but a fun time was had by all.

Then on Thursday we went to Skaneateles for the day and did a little shopping, had lunch at Doug’s and visited a few old friends along the way. The day was perfect and the water was a pristine clear blue. We also stopped and posed at the Gazebo where we were married.

Then it was back to Janet’s for dinner and cards with Aunt Jane and Uncle Fred.

Thanks to Janet we are having a really great time.

May 19, 2009

We had a great day yesterday. We got to spend the day with our niece Abby and her son Braydon. We went on the hunt for hotdogs and to take Braydon to his first hotdog outing at the world famous Heid's in Liverpool, New York. For those of you who don't know, Tom is a bit of a hotdog snob. His favorite being Heid's and at the bottom of his list are those pink things they sell in Alabama. From there we went on to an Italian meat market for meatball mix and sausage made in a ring. It was great fun and Braydon crashed in the carseat on the way back to the RV.

Woke up this morning to a hard front and very white frosted grass. Burrrr....it was cold for both me and the dogs at 6 am. Spent today doing laundry and school work. Tomorrow we will just chill and go to an evening softball game as the end of the week and weekend will be busy with visiting family and friends. Oh yes and a trip to Skaneateles.

Tom and his favorite hotdog.

Breakfast with Charlotte, Mrs. VanGorder, Aunt Emily and Don
Justin and Riley resting in the RV after meeting the horses.
The view from Janet's home.

We arrived in Cortland, New York yesterday afternoon about 2 PM EST. It was an interesting trip. The GPS routed us through every construction site along the eastern corridor. The worst was Highway 95 around Washington DC. They must have gotten more stipend monies for roads than the other states.

All in the entire trip was very nice and we only hit a brief amount of rain on Thursday afternoon. We spent our evenings in Savannah, Rocky Mount and Harrisburg. Tom, Aunt Vera and I boon docked, while Tom’s Dad and Charlotte (Tom’s stepmother) stayed in motels. Yes, we broke our; dinner for four, sleeps two rule. It was fun making breakfast for us all before we got on the road and being able to stop at rest stops to prepare lunch. Having a kitchen on board certainly is nice.

We took Aunt Vera to her son’s house. He was very surprised and happy to see her. We will pick her up there to make the return trip with us. We then parked the RV on Janet’s property (in front of the horse barn where we have full power and water hook-ups. YEAH!!! ) We plan to sleep in the RV for most of our visit unless the temperature drops to the frost level. I know it is May, but we are in upstate New York where we have seen snowstorms as late as mother’s day. The temperature is expected to drop into the low 50’s tonight.

Went to breakfast with some of the family this morning then Janet (Tom’s sister) and I prepared sauce for a family spaghetti dinner tomorrow night.

The dogs saw horses for the first time and were a little curious and yet timid. “Wow! They are even bigger than Mesa.”

Travels to New York are going well. We should be there by mid-day on Friday. The construction back ups have put us a little behind, but we are in no real hurry. That is the joy of being retired.

The dogs are doing great!! I think they are getting the routine.

Tom got the satellite to work tonight and I just did my first class via the Verizon air card. We are totally high tech.....except for our frig which has decided to not cool anymore. Thank goodness we brought the cooler.

Keep us in your prayers.

May 11, 2009

We have landed in Florida at the end of Day One. Tomorrow morning we will pick up Tom’s Aunt Vera, his Dad and Stepmom. This will be a surprise for his Dad and Stepmom. They are expecting us to come in my Mom’s car to drive them to New York and they have no idea that Aunt Vera is coming too. We can’t wait to see their faces.

Tonight we are Boondocking about 7 miles from them. Boondocking is not so bad when you have a generator and several house batteries to keep things running. Oh yes and Wi-Fi too.

The dogs are doing very well. Riley has claimed the couch and Justin just keeps looking out the windows wondering where we are going. I think he is looking for his pal Mesa, but he will have to wait for our return to play with him at the beach.

We are off to bed. Tomorrow should prove to be fun and exciting.

Getting Ready

We are getting ready for our first big outing (3 weeks)in the motor home on Monday. As we prepare there are a million little things to consider. They are almost like a spiders web. For example: WEATHER -> clothing, shoes, sunscreen, beach gear, coats, rain gear, umbrellas, hats, shorts, short sleeves, long pants, long sleeves, hoodies, one dress-up outfit with shoes to match (and remember the closet is only 4 feet long). Things to do during bad weather (games, books, crafts, laptops, Cd's, satellite TV). Cooking (grilling/non-grilling)and all the gadgets that go with both. And my lists go on and on, but if I forget something, there is always Wally World along most major highways.

So it looks like it will take me until mid-June to get the motor home ready for full time use and the house empty. We are looking forward to getting on the road and taking in all the sites and experiences that this will allow us.

We will keep y'all posted (with pictures!) wherever we go.
Always in our prays,
Anna & Tom
